Specifications
About this fabric
This is white nylon ripstop fabric, 40 denier with a PU (polyurethane) coating, 58 inches (147 cm) wide and about 45 GSM. It costs ₹450 per meter. FLY360 cuts it to the length you order and ships it as one continuous piece, so there are no joins. It suits kites, parachutes, bags, rain gear and dry bags, and it ships free anywhere in India.
What can you make with 40D nylon ripstop fabric?
Nylon ripstop at this weight is used for kites, parachutes, bags, rain gear and dry bags. FLY360 has made and flown kites since 1996, and light ripstop like this is a standard sail material for delta, eddy and single-line kites.
- Kites: a light, rigid sail that holds its shape under tension.
- Parachutes: thin, strong cloth that packs small.
- Bags and dry bags: the coated side sheds water.
- Rain gear: water beads up and slides off the surface.
How does ordering by the meter work?
Set the quantity to the number of meters you need. If you order 6, you receive one 6 meter piece at the full 58 inch width, not six separate 1 meter cuts. Order a little extra if your pattern needs seam allowance, because a second order cannot be joined to match the first.
How does the ripstop grid stop tears?
A ripstop grid weaves thicker reinforcing threads into the cloth at regular intervals. If a small tear starts, it runs into the next reinforcing thread and stops there instead of spreading across the sail. The fabric is stiff with little stretch, which gives kites, parachutes and bags structural support without much weight.
Is this nylon ripstop fabric waterproof?
The PU coating makes it water resistant. Water beads up on the surface and slides off, and the fabric does not soak up moisture, so it dries quickly. Needle holes from sewing can still let water through, so use seam tape if you are building a dry bag or rain gear that must stay sealed.
How is this fabric shipped, and how long does delivery take?
FLY360 ships to addresses in India only, and shipping is free nationwide. Orders are usually dispatched in 2 to 3 business days and delivered in 5 to 7 business days. You can pay online through Razorpay or choose cash on delivery. International orders are by quote only, so message us on WhatsApp at +91 77009 39376.
How wide is 40D ripstop fabric, and how much does it weigh?
This fabric is 58 inches wide, about 147 cm, and approximately 45 GSM, meaning about 45 grams per square meter. One running meter at full width weighs roughly 66 grams.
Can I use this ripstop fabric for kites?
Yes. It is light, stiff and tear resistant, which is what a kite sail needs. Pair it with fibreglass or carbon rods suited to your kite design.
Do you sell this ripstop fabric in other colours?
This listing is for white only. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 77009 39376 to ask about other colours or bulk quantities.
How do I stop the cut edges from fraying?
Nylon edges can fray after cutting. Makers usually seal them with a hot knife or fold and stitch a hem.
